The title of this group: Ecstatic Wisdom Postures suggests lots of meaty topics. I'm enthralled with the concept of Ecstatic Wisdom by its very nature and would love to know what those two words conjure for you. I've just finished reading a book by Barbara Ehrenreich called Dancing in the Streets - a History of Communal Joy. In days of yore, dancing and singing and acting out myths with masks and costumes solidified our sense of connection with life and all its vagaries, gave us an opportunity to experience ecstatic aliveness. Ehrenreich points out the same idea that Felicitas Goodman, who discovered the practice of Postures, espoused. We humans suffer from ecstasy deprivation. How can mythsingers begin to envision a culture where participatory communal ecstasy thrives again?
Ecstatic wisdom - these words speak to me of the courage required to follow your bliss in terms of lifestyle and also in the moment.
There are many times when even as a listener, we can open doors to ecstacy either in performance art or in every day life by having the courage to receive ecstasy and allow it to flow through us.
Like Bjork says in her record, Big Time Sensuality, "it takes courage to enjoy it."
It has been said that ecstatic practice is self-indulgent, self-serving and a waste of time.
Such rubbish! :-)
The achievement of ecstacy is the swallowing of the little self by the big self - the self that we all are - nothing could serve the world more than practices which connect ourselves to each other in this way.
Only when we are connected does time really move - all actions of the little self is fumbling in the darkness.
So good to hear from you. How I love this statement you made: The achievement of ecstacy is the swallowing of the little self by the big self - the self that we all are - nothing could serve the world more than practices which connect ourselves to each other in this way...
Yes, yes and that awareness of being swallowed paradoxically enlarges me simultaneously and fills me with the groundedness of being. . .making pancakes and pouring syrup while being aware of the molecules and storyline of each ingredient, oh my, such bigness!
I'm so excited to have changed my own lifestory by MOVING - Did you know that was predicted at Druid Camp in 2007 and I resisted - thought moving from my precious wilderness retreat in Montana impossible at the time but here it is and there I am in the Pacific Northwest and it is MYTHIC. check out Whidbey Institute's website for Eagle and the Condor on Oct 10th. AND participating in a conference built around the new film ( here on Mythsingers too so you might have found it already ) Mythic Journeys here on Bainbridge Island in Nov. ( which is also "braided" with the Whidbey event.) Hugs galore old Bard!!!!
