I've led these programs now for many years, this one co-led with Munro Sickafoose; (some of you may know him) and I'm sure to receive more than I give, each time. It's an honor to sit with men in council, listen to heart-stories, learn about each man's hopes, dreams, fears, and what must be confirmed. Coming to the realization that a rite of passage/initiation ceremony doesn't create the change, it marks the change, and it's important to be able to identify what is turning in one's life so that you can take a stand for that. This trip (with Rites of Passage, which I direct) will go into the high desert Inyo Mountains, in Southern California...the snow-capped Sierras across the Owens Valley, wildflowers, really magnificent. Go here for an article that Munro wrote about the men's quest: http://www.ritesofpassagevisionquest.org/main/mens-vision-quest.html
Thank you so much for doing this work. I have many fond memories of hiking and climbing in those very mountains across the valley there ... so my view was usually from the other side. When I see them like this, it is like looking back in time. When I see them like this, they still call out to my soul.
