Daniel Deardorff

"A myth is a story that tells a sacred truth without the use of facts."

Daniel Deardorff is a "Singer" in the old sense of that word, which involves being a musician, a storyteller, and a maker of ritual. He has been a composer and a performing artist for more than four decades. As an independent scholar of myth Deardorff's emphasis is on mythopoesis [myth-making] and the performative aspects of mythic expression. He is the author of The Other Within: The Genius of Deformity in Myth, Culture & Psyche and is also the founder of The Mythsinger Foundation

Is there some way to save blog posts that one has written? I wrote one a month or so ago, and it is not in the archives or anywhere to be found. I just wrote another, and do not know where to find it or how others could. It seems pretty straightforward, but clearly I am missing something (I feel so challenged when it comes to computer sites sometimes). I am trying to be a participant in this rich community. And to blog, as you suggested, about core shamanism. Any help would be most appreciated.

Hi Danny

Just wanting to connect. I love your idea about your sharing the Drum Project. Am looking forward to talking more about that.

Here's a thought I think you will enjoy.

religion is for those afraid of going to hell
Spirituality is for those who have been to hell and are on the road to life

Hi Danny,
Yes, I saw the News Box and think it a wonderful idea. Maybe feature some hot discussion topic monthly - or weekly.... or announce someone's especially well done home page.... or unique skill set ... not sure what is appropriate but the News presents great opportunity for all sorts of things.

Daniel,
I'm trying to figure out how to find location information for groups. first, ot find those close to me. Second, I travel alot and would love to plan to attend some myth groups during my travels, if I can discover how to easily list the groups geographically. Can you help?

My ancestors are riding a swell. Gathering about me. They seem to know far more of our upcoming liason than I. This is good.

Hi, Thanks for the welcome message. I attended the storytelling gathering at the Duvall Coffee House on Saturday night. I enjoyed the evening! I was invited in a phone call at 6 pm that evening by a friend familiar with your work. I did not know anything more than that a storytelling was the focus of the evening. Usually I do not just hop in the car and drive 20 miles in the dark...but... I had a dream on the Sunday before that I would like to tell you. It is a very short dream.
In a city with many murals painted on buildings, with Jeff and someone else.
We are in a restaurant and we have wrapped gifts to give and receive. We take turns receiving a set of items and mostly they seem like books. The one I notice is "Be here Now".end of dream.
After Jeff's invitation I remembered the dream and decided we simply must attend.
It was wonderful! A great experience to join together with the stories, listeners, drums.
I have studied dreaming and participated in dream circle for 7 years. I am a preschool teacher and singer.
In graitude,
Lucinda

Know-not is from the Russian fairy tales and is one of my favorites. It shows a young man of apparent little worth as being secretly of great valor, and a young woman apparently of privilege who exhibits profound discernment.
