Danny Deardorff ("The Other Within") recently met with Fredric Matteson (Contextual-Conceptual Therapy: Guiding the Suicidal Person Using Maps, Models, & Metaphors) for a four hour conversation at Mossyrock in Port Townsend to discuss the commonality of their work and the importance of mythopoesis [myth-making] and metaphor in healing and re-membering. Afterwards, Deardorff had this endorsement about Matteson's CCT work with suicidal individuals:

"The truly remarkable discovery that Fredric Matteson has made is that the suicidal person is struggling in what he terms a 'bifurcated state.' In my mythological work on the experience of 'otherness' I have called this bifurcation a disjunction between one's inter-personal identity and one's intra-personal identity. The importance of Matteson's discovery for gaining a deeper insight into the lived experience of suicidality cannot be overstated. The duality, the either-or-sense, of the bifurcation triggers an over-literalizing rigidity, a one-sidedness which, in Matteson's revolutionary view, must be "destabilized." From the mythic perspective this is the oldest medicine in the world -- the ritual elder takes the initiand into a sacred uncertainty, the liminal condition, where identity disintegrates, expands, and is renewed. Because the suicidal person is on the front lines of the modern dilemma, I believe this work is of the greatest importance for us all." ~ Daniel Deardorff, Author of "The Other Within: The Genius of Deformity in Myth, Culture, & Psyche"; Founder of the Mythsinger Foundation.

Rick - that's a great idea - the only problem is that it takes about 15 minutes each time I sign on before I can get to site then another to view and respond to comments - unfortunately I don't have highspeed here and not that keen on spending so much time away from the rest of what I have to do. BUt it's a good idea and I'll do it from time to time xx D

Hi Rick,
I've tried putting longer things or things about my groups etc. on ex arts on line and it hasn't been accepted. I have a list I could send anything you send me to from the reunion. If you use ex arts on line I'd suggest giving them just a web page reference. But you can send it to me.

Hi Rick, feels good to connect with you again and be a part of this group, thanks for the invite. Haven't given up on Barcelona yet, all depends on whether I can shift enough work before then, my schedule's pretty full with the project kicking off in February. Have you got anyone else from the UK coming?

Hi Fredric and Danny,
Thank you for inviting me to this forum. Danny, thank you so much for the incredible story last night for the young women we are initiating. As you predicted, we chewed on it some more...our tummies are still full and we feel content but hungry for more.
Hi Ben, good to see you are in this group.

Rick, thanks for this. I am looking forward to reconnecting in the coming months as I am about to finish with my dissertation project soon. I have begun reading about CCT and am most intrigued! Sorry we missed each other in England last year--though it was a rich and full time. Ben Dennis
