Well, I am just back and tired from a short Men's weekend up in Canada, but now that I see some interest, I will be happy to figure out how to post more details in the fashion of a "white paper" on the subject. As to who exactly, I think that will b…
It's a great question. I know Tembo has some ideas, I wonder if you have any notions. One thing seems clear to me, for this purpose sometimes a younger person has to stand in and fulfill the function of the elder. I call it becoming a ritual functio…
Hola, Jeff,
Another gypsy, eh? I am thrilled for your musical and instrument-making excellence! To say nothing of your herbal medicinal plant farming efforts. Very exciting! My kinda guy! I'm due at Joshua Tree in my gypsy wagon, mid-Sept. for the Bhakti Fest. (http://www.westcoastkirtanyogafestival.com/) First, I have to build the wagon - most the work commissioned to Port Townsend staples, Steve Habersetzer, fine woodworker, boat builder and farmer (Oatsplanter Farm), and Laurence Cole, PT EcoVillage resident, singer/songwriter and fine woodworking artisan, whose mission is to ReEnchant the World. Both those guys are PT compost kings. My own work in the past 10 years has been with therapeutic grade essential oils, but I have great affinity for ayurved and homeopathy in the health and healing realm, as well as, a multitude of subtle vibrational methods. Music and myth fall in that realm.
I've only just met Daniel Deardorff, though his reputation as a storyteller and musician preceded our recent connection. He and Martin Shaw are sharing the bill, this weekend at a story eve and a workshop. Since my own quest involves re-discovering my story-telling, singing and soul voice, I need to be there. NW Folklife calls this weekend, as well. Opportunities abound. Everyone should have such challenging choices!
(Curt) David sends his greetings, by the way. I gave him the link to your website.
Bless you,
Pushkara
Ahh-hh, Jeffrey, thanks for filling me in on a piece of our past history. 1974-75 was the year I administered the grant, "If it's to be it's up to me!" for remodeling my AES#1 classroom and installing a self-directed primary math-science curriculum. That earned me credits to complete my B.A., also at Evergreen. Curt, who now goes by his middle name, David, is a fine singer and musician, an artful recording engineer, a graphic artist and a sought after cook. He and we lived many years in India. David's in the Woodstock, NY area. I'm on Whidbey Island, about to undertake a singing pilgrimage in a gypsy wagon. Met 3 young men from the Ashland area in a recent course at the Port Townsend School of Woodworking on "How to build a gypsy wagon." Perhaps we'll meet up when I'm on the road. My first destination is the Bhakti Fest, devotional chanting event, in Joshua Tree, mid Sept. You're doing some drumming, I take it. Are you a story-teller, as well?
One and the same. Once a trouble-maker, always a trouble-maker, hm-mm? Please refresh my memory of our AES #1 connection, will you? And by what route did you arrive at the Mythsinger Consortium?
Ps Love the instruments! I have recently graduated to intermediate status on the Jembe - according to Malidoma Some this is a distinction confered only on those who have learned to play the wrong beat for the longest possible amount of time! Are you coming to Seattle Rhythm Festival? If so, I'll have to sell my car so I can buy a balaphon! TC
Hey, Jeffery, I don't seem to be able to send you a direct "message" if you don't sign up to "be my friend" (Can only leave a comment here) but I appreciated your thoughts. Yes, there is definitely some mojo in having the men be local . . . however, it is actually a bit of a (re-emerging?) tradition to have a few "outlanders in the mix . . . who may be special "helpers" as they say, or may be just extra men that spirit sent to help out. I appreciate you standing in the territory in your bio on your site that you "had been called by those same spirits too." I definitely feel the same.
Two points for now . . .We all would be happy to come down (whoever we all is I'm not sure, but I'll make a firm committment on their behalf right now so they can't back out later!) if there is some use for us in any Ashland projects upcoming.
Second, up here, the work with the young men is much stronger than with the young women . . . Would your wife have any leads on networks as far as that goes?
