RITING MYTH, MYTHIC WRITING with Dennis Patrick Slattery at Ladera Lane Campus, Pacifica Graduate Institute Santa Barbara, California
August 12, 2010 to August 15, 2010
Each of our lives is, in part, a patterned reality whose shape and repetitions are not always easily discernible without deep reflection. Writing, which is also a riting of one's self, is one effective means by which the imagination and memory con…

Hi Scott, Thanks for the comment regarding this poem's cadence. I love music but don't write music. I have had musicians write me regarding lyrics to their own songs but I've not had anyone ask permission to put lyrics to one of my poems into a son…

Here is a small contribution to the wall. I heard the ragged weeds of Pan so did the jagged cloud come play aloud and level low along the edge enough to thatch the grey-green canyon grand in snow and snatch away its mouth nothing is the master of…

Hi, Brian! What a lovely poem! Your poem brings together the images of pilgrim and journey and this has reminded me of the work or writing of Dennis Slattery, another fine poet and mythsinger. Dennis explores the body of imagery through a number o…

The Poet's Role In Culture: Calling All Poets

"I see the true role of a poet in culture as the person who breaks apart the myths and containers that become literalism. It is, like alchemy, an opus contra naturam, which Hillman defines as a work against nature...yet in the service of a wider nature that is animated or ensouled. " Maggie Macary, cultural mythologer

Stephanie,
Are you a friend of George? I love George and Kathleen...we were in the Mythica Imagination Inst. course together. I flew out to his memorial in Atlanta last September...were you there? Are you involved in Mythic Imagination 2010 or the next Mythic Journeys conference? I've been conversing with Honora via email today...

Hi Stephanie, Thanks for your warm welcome. I love poetry , it has become very important to me in the last two years. Haven't written any in a while, three poems were published in a local anthology. I have some copies left with my family, but I'm currently travelling through Scotland and intend to be away all spring, so my use of the internet will be pretty limited for the time being as I'll sleep under the stars and in mountain bothies as much as I can, but I welcome poetic mayhem and look forward to communicating with you and others when I can. All the best, Phebe.

Thank you for permission to reprint your poem as a SPLASH feature for April National Poetry Month. I am truly grateful. I did visit your blog and book marked your site for a future visit, which I will try to do in-between my spring travel beginning this weekend and throughout the summer season. It also looks like we have that Puchcart thing in common (and thricely!) Blessings! -stephanie

Hi- I suppose a blog is a way to continue your own musing life and yes, it would raise ideas and shape topos and invite comment, too.

Besides writing on the wall you could start a discussion in the group. Go to the Poetry & Psyche Page. There is a place just below "add a text" which says "start a discussion" if you click on that you can post a topic for discussion within the P&P group.

Stephanie,

I see that I have finally found my way into your group. I weave myself into the tapestry of your group. How might the group serve in our offerings? I notice a blog section would this be for questions asked, or insights found? I am new to this type of work.
