Invite twenty one of the bewildered masses to a feast and who will come? One will suspect your intentions and insist on a background investigation. One will first consult their lawyer. One will care more about the serving spoon. One will ask what their husband thinks. One will have a to do list. One will not be in the mood. One will want to know who put what where. One will keep a cool head, but stay home. One will stay home and kill plants without knowing it. One would rather exchange love with…

A prayer to the CreatorWe honor the four directions,
the Sun and the Moon,
the masculine and feminine
We honor the darkness
and we honor the light that
shines in all creation
We honor the past,
the place where we come from;
that which has brought us here
to the present
... and we give thanks for
the learning we have received
We honor the future,
for we know t…

Dear Friends,
In Duvall, WA a small group of us are working on a grief ritual in the Dagara tradition from Malidoma and Sobonfu Some, passed down to Francis Weller and Kim Scanlon of WisdomBridge. We are finding that big, deceptively simple questions are being raised by this process, such as:
What do we do with grief? What are appropriate and dignified ways to express it? What is it's purpose?
It seems likely that our ancestors had cultural technologies for dealing with grief, that they invit…

Laurence: I met you at one of your song line classes. My name is Ramona Wright. I am an Activity Director at San Juan Villa Dementia Care. I would like to invite your "Songline" group and any of the other Mythsinger artists, dancers etc.. to come and perform for the residents here. I think it would be a great experience for them. The residents here are are so forgotten by society, even more so than normal elders. I try to keep them engaged as much as I can, but I'm only one person for 30 residen…

In general people of Western civilization consider themselves to belong to one of two groups; atheistic or monotheistic. However to tell you the truth we have seldom met either. The literalized Christian religions say they believe in and worship one god, and in name this is true. But right out front you have Jesus as well as God. They are worshipped as one, as well as separate beings; The father, son and holy ghost. You then have the next level of worshipped beings; The Virgin Mary, The Devil, T…

A recent set of dreams--over three nights--have left me with the fraying edge of some piece of tapestry.
Interesting enough, I have now found out that there is a black hawk, native to Central and Northern So. America--sometime s seen in the SW of the US as well. I offer them up to any who might hear what they have to say, while I dip deeper into Mayan Cosmologies~
I was standing in the dark night in a field outside a gathering house—a long house of some kind was green in the night and people r…

We are approaching all hallows eve - known to many as the festival of the dead or hallowe'en - one of the times of year when the veil between this world and the other is at it's thinnest.
This is a setting of a traditional story from Britain exploring some of the lore associated with this time of year - very much in it's first stages and I'd be grateful if you'd let me know what you think doesn't work and how it could be improved.
Many moons ago, when the wild wood was still thick enough to…

Sacred Fire Offering
Ice Wisdom shares this prophecy: “One day, when the world needs it most, the sacred fire will come home to the people at the top of the world.“ Greenland Eskimo Elder and Wisdom-Keeper, Angaangaq, explains that “when the fire meets ice at the top of the world, it will melt the ice in the heart of man.” [http://www.icewisdom.com/teachings/qilaut/ ]

What happens when the stories merge? When lives seemingly cross paths from lifetime to lifetime? Where do we find completion? Is that the point? There is a mixture of continuous joy, the sadness of loss, and very present longing hope. The mind tries to understand every little detail in hopes of finding truth. Which truth? There is a truth that is beyond thinking, and even beyond feeling. Does the story link us to this truth or merely proliferate the cycle of the mind? If the story lives beyond t…

BLACK BIRD MEDICINE
Recently, I had a dream in which a blackbird with a purplish sheen to its head appeared inside the back window ledge of my car. I tried to help it escape through the window, but it didn't want to leave. I recognized this as a medicine dream, appropriate for this moment in time.
I found many online references to Native American Blackbird Animal Medicine which together weave a great tale.
My bird book describes the Brewer's Blackbird: black with a purplish sheen to the head,…
