Restoring the Wisdom of Myth to Culture & Community

Having the wonderful experience of making "Mythic Journeys" forced us to look back on our own journey and how we came to where we are today. We’d like to share that with you.

A few years ago we were working on films that, although we are very proud of, had a lot of limitations. We prided ourselves on being control freaks and felt we had to do everything ourselves. We would start a film and say:

“This is just for the love of making films; it will never make any money.”

“We’ll be happy if it goes to a few festivals and maybe wins an award.”

“We’ll make it as cheaply as possible since no one would invest in it.”

“We’ll never get star names because we’re nobodies so why bother asking.”

“We don’t need to network since we’re not good at meeting people.”

Deep into our last project, beaten into exhaustion by working 24/7, stressed and frustrated by our limited budget, and just not having much fun -- we realized things had to change. After all, we became filmmakers for the love of the art form, the joy of sharing our vision with other people and simply because there is nothing else we would rather be doing. So why were we limiting our passion? Looking back we really did meet all those goals we set for ourselves: it never made any money, no one invested in it, no stars got involved…Wow, we really sold ourselves short.

So we decided to take a different approach, sell ourselves higher set our expectations a bit higher and in a more positive light.
So we made ourselves a promise on our next project, we set and objective.

There would be no limitations.

We would learn to delegate and play well with others

We would force ourselves to go out and meet people, talk to everyone we met.

We would not be afraid to ask for help. If we wanted a star, we would go out and find one.

We will make money as well as win awards.

We will enjoy ourselves.

There were many other things that we can’t quite remember at the moment but bottom line is every intention we set has come true. Well, with the exception of making money on the film but then again it isn’t finished yet so that would be kind of hard now wouldn’t it. But that gets us to our point. Beyond the simple, cliché “I think I can” message here, lies a more important lesson. When we start setting our intentions, stop limiting our passions we learn to trust our futures. Our leaps of faith over that unknown abyss become less fearful and more rewarding. Although we are ever amazed by the people and events that have blessed our paths while making this film we are no longer surprised by the almost daily incredible happenings. We’ve come to almost expect them, which just builds our confidence and pushes us to new levels.

To many people this may seem simple and even obvious but every once in a while it’s the simple things that we need to be reminded of. After all they’re clichés for a reason. Please share your experience with us.

Thanks for reading!
